Buying a car
How do I check a car's logbook before buying?
Run an official NTSA search on eCitizen to confirm the owner and any loans on the car.
Before paying for a locally used car, confirm who owns it and whether it is security for a loan.
- Sign in to eCitizen and open the NTSA service.
- Choose Motor Vehicle Search and enter the number plate.
- Pay the search fee with M-Pesa.
- Check that the owner's name matches the seller's ID and that no financier or caveat is recorded.
If the logbook is held by a bank, ask the seller how the loan will be cleared before transfer.
