Buy and sell safely

Most deals on KakaMotors go smoothly. These simple checks protect you from the few that don't.

When you're buying

View the car in person, in daylight, at the seller's home, a busy public place or the dealer's yard.
Bring a mechanic or book a pre-purchase inspection before agreeing a price.
Run an NTSA search on eCitizen to confirm the registered owner and any loan on the logbook.
Check the chassis and engine numbers on the car match the logbook.
For imports, ask for the KEBS inspection certificate and the duty payment documents.
Pay only after inspection, by a traceable method — bank transfer or M-Pesa to the registered owner — and get a signed sale agreement.

Meet buyers in safe, public places and bring someone with you for test drives.
Hold the buyer's ID while they test drive and go with them.
Confirm money has actually cleared in your own bank or M-Pesa statement — never rely on an SMS forwarded by the buyer.
Start the NTSA transfer only once you have been paid in full.
Never share your M-Pesa PIN, eCitizen password or one-time codes with anyone, including people claiming to be from KakaMotors.

A price far below similar cars on the site.
The seller can't meet, is 'abroad', or the car is 'at the port' and needs clearing fees first.
Requests for a deposit, viewing fee or 'logbook search fee' before you see the car.
Payment requested to a personal number or account in a different name from the owner.
Pressure to decide fast because 'another buyer is waiting'.
Buyers who overpay and ask for the difference back, or send screenshots instead of real payments.
