Buying a car
What do Foreign Used, Locally Used and Brand New mean?
The three conditions you see on every ad, and what each means for price and paperwork.
Foreign Used cars were imported — mostly from Japan, the UK, the UAE or Singapore — and have never been registered in Kenya. They usually come with low mileage and are sold with duty already paid by the importer.
Locally Used cars already carry a Kenyan number plate and have had at least one owner in Kenya. Prices are typically lower, and you should check the service history and run an NTSA search before buying.
Brand New cars are sold by franchise dealers with the full manufacturer warranty and service plan.
